Get out of the rain and that’s an order! Head for cover, stay dry and feel secure that you are out of the rain storms.  Here’s a short list of places to go to have fun during a down pour:

Zach Theater – Check out performance art, various plays and musicals. No-risk fun!

Violet Crown – Similar to the Alamo Drafthouse, this movie house specializes in showing artsy-fartsy style movies from foreign to documentary features. Plus you can eat and drink here too.

 

LBJ Presidential Library – Explore the museum’s exhibits and events.

iFly Austin – Indoor skydiving. Why not?

Austin Rock Gym – Start out with the basics of climbing and become an expert in no time.

Taco time is everytime

A true Austinite will say that it’s always time for a taco. In fact, a breakfast taco can replace a bagel anytime!  Here’s a list of five places to make your taco dreams come true:

1.       Taco Deli – They only stay open until three and I can almost guarantee there will be a line, but it’s worth it.

2.       Torchy’s – The guacamole has jalapenos in it.  It may burn the side of your mouth but it won’t stop you from eating it.

3.       Maria’s Taco Express – This place has been around since 1996. It is an institution in south Austin and the place to go for your taco cravings.

4.       Papalote – This place is a new comer to south Austin but still worth the praise.

5.       Taqueria Olivas – This is a taco truck and it’s authentic!

Halloween Austin Style

Haven't secured plans for Halloween yet?  Downtown Austin offers a ton of festivities to get you in the spirit:

The House of Torment – The ultimate haunted house experience.

Haunted ATX Limo – Visit 12 different sites around Austin in a decked out hearse.

Ghost Tour – They offer several guided tours that you can travel by foot or by trolley. 

Zombie Ball – Halloween night at the Moody Theater. Invest in a killer costume to impress the creeps and ghouls. 

6th Street – Hit the bars, restaurants or walk up and down the street to see and be seen.

Austin Pizza Pizza

This list was inspired by the fact that there are not many people out there that don’t like pizza, no matter what style it is.  Enjoy!

Pieous – Located in the SW area of Austin. They have been packed since they opened up their doors.

Via 313 – This east side trailer offers Detroit-style pizza.

360 Pizza – Check them out for their New York thin crust.

Rounders – Go for the garlic knots.

Arpeggio – This Mediterranean restaurant offers some great Greek inspired pizzas.

Late Night Snack

Are you looking for an emergency evening snack? Put down the Ben and Jerry’s and head downtown for a no-risk treat.

Gourdoughs – I’ve mentioned them before but I think their gourmet donuts are worth mentioning again!

Home Slice –THE place to get New York style pizza in Austin.

Magnolia Café – They offer a wide range of menu items from Mexican, Italian, vegetarian and breakfast food.

24 Diner – Check out the chicken and waffles.

Star Seeds Café – Café + diner + hole in the wall = great choice for night-time snacking.

Austin, TX in the Fall

The holidays will surely keep you busy but don’t forget to invest your time in some of the upcoming festivals, fairs and events.

1. Pecan Street Festival – September 28^th-29^th on Old Pecan Street (6th street) there will be crafts, food, music and art.
2. Austin City Limits Music Fest - This year we have two weekends to choose from: October 4^th-6^th and 11^th-13^th at Zilker Park.
3. La Dolce Vita Food and Wine Festival – Held on October 24^th at Laguna Gloria.
4. Austin Beer Week- During the week of October 25^th thru November 3^rd there will be 100 plus events and activities revolving around craft beer.
5. Texas Book Festival – A free event held on October 26^th – 27^th in and around the Capitol building.
6. ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot – This “run” is a Thanksgiving day tradition for many Austinites.

Mexican Martini in Austin

The Mexican Martini is very similar to a margarita in a martini glass but different all the same. Here is a list of some places to get the Austin original drink:

Cedar Door – This is a no-risk option. They are the self-proclaimed originators of the Mexican martini. You can even buy their top secret recipe mix.

Chuy’s – Some people only come here to order their take on the mexi-martini. They have two varieties to choose from: regular and spicy.

Trudy’s – They make such a powerful drink that they limit it you to just two!

South Congress Café – The bar staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
